So far our project have turned out to be a new alternative musical interface meant for composing music in a new and playfull manner. In theory participators will be interacting with a canvas, which will be (so far) a transparent plexiglass.
At first we thought about using a real canvas and provide the participators with real colors. We wanted to let people draw, basically everything, and then turn it into sound. If such idea should be possible to do, we had to dig further into color tracking and also a practical way to track the pencil´s movement on the canvas.
The group have been searching for interesting ways of how to do so, and we have moved a bit away from our starting point.
So far we will not give the participators real colors to paint with, but instead they have to use their fingers as pencils. We still want them to paint with different colors, so we will make a digital palette, which will give participators the possibilities to choose between a range of colors.
Each color will have their own attribute such as, blue will be rhytms, red will be melody and so on....
While participators draw, the fingertips will be tracked in Max Msp and then processed further. The sound output correspond to the way the participator have been drawing on the plexiglass (the input).
We have not, so far, figured out how to do the sound processing, but we have some ideas......
